Sharing and mutual exchange goes further than volunteerisim

Volunteerism is important but we feel it does not quite go far enough in making a sustainable difference.  Volunteering one's services is usually a one-way conversation with little follow-up and low follow through. In some cases, it may even be counterproductive as we get accustomed to a 'give - take' attitude.
On the other hand, truly sustainable projects are ones that allow for mutually sharing and getting both local and visitor involvement. Empowering locals to share their skills and in exchange, guests share theirs. Consistently followed-up over time and tracked thanks to new mobile technologies. This is far more sustainable and has a greater impact.
I'm not one for words. We feel Sustainable action speak louder!
